(2011), have demonstrated that meditations that cultivate feelings of loving-kindness (directed toward the self and others) enhance a range of positive outcomes, including enhanced positive affect, purpose in life, social support and mindfulness. These feelings can also reduce negative affect and symptoms of illness.
